Avian Photography. Why Birds you may ask? Melanie’s feathered friends have always been a very relaxing yet, exciting part of her journey. For as long as she can remember she has kept and collected images of them. Avian Photography has always been part of her journey and she even keeps records of them making her both a Birder and Bird Photographer. Birding or Twitching is a really addictive and fun thing to be part of and joining your local birding or Birdlife SA club is safe a great way to learn about bird behaviour so you can plan your image.

Birding teaches you so much about photography and gives you the one aspect that is needed when you develop as style and progress in your craft and that is PATIENCE. It is also one of the most rewarding genres as birds do not sit still for long periods of time and you can get some great action images. Birds plumage also changes and breeding colours are often a great reward. The great thing about birding is it does not matter how ordinary a bird is, with the correct lighting you can always improve.

Birding can also change your own habits. I am not a morning person but there is nothing better than that early morning light on a bird, even the little brown jobs as they are called. You can enjoy birding anywhere you are even in your own backyard. There are many books and resources on the internet you can use to attract birds naturally to your garden, and a great way to start your journey.

“In order to see birds, it is necessary to become a part of the silence.” ― Robert Lynd
